From the Traditional to the Modern

Zimba Chronicle

Already by the winter of 1925 - 1926, when the bohemian American author Ernest Hemingway was staying in the very south of Vorarlberg, in order to enjoy with his friends the still undeveloped sport of skiing, along with the tasty peasant country food, and also to write his well-known novel "Fiesta", a simple Alpine "Gasthaus" stood on the very spot of today's Alpenhotel Zimba. In 1953 the Family Huber obtained possession of this picturesque wooden building. Over the following decades through far-sighted planning they developed the old wooden structure into the present-day 4 Star Alpenhotel with its reputation for good food and warm hospitality and all its modern comforts and facilities.

Zimba Gipfel

The Zimba (2,643m) gives its name to our House and is the best known peak in the Rätikon. Because of its striking pyramid shape it is also known as the "Vorarlberg Matterhorn". First ascent by Anton Neyer of Bludenz in July 1847.
